The Chairman, House Committee on Local Government, Hon. Abdulrahaman Alkasim Karkarna says the oversight function of the legislature is meant to ensure check and balances in the implementation of policies and programmes by the executive.
Hon. Abdulrahaman Karkarna representing Yankwashi constituency at the Jigawa state house of assembly, made the remark when he led members of the committee to Miga local government in continuation of the committee’s tour of the twenty-seven local government councils of the state.
The state member house of assembly explained that the strategies employed by the committee to assess the local government’s performances in the implementation of policies and programmes were meant to ensure improved service delivery.
Abdurrahaman Karkarna expressed the committee’s sympathy to the people of Miga being one of the areas worst affected by this year’s flood and prayed for Allah the Almighty to compensate the victims abundantly.
Also speaking, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Habu Muhammad Maigatari expressed satisfaction with local government’s performances in the conduct of regular security meetings and the engagement of stakeholders
On his part, member representing Babura constituency Hon. Kabiru Isah urged the local government to ensure that all financial documents are accompanied with receipts and duly signed by relevant stakeholders.
Responding, the Chairman Miga local government council, Hon. Muhammad Abubakar Agufa expressed hope that the visit would have positive impact towards the development of the area and pledged to make good use of the committee’s recommendations.
