The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi has asked state commandants of the Corps to key into his vision of repositioning the Corps for greater service delivery or take the exit route.
This was as he advocated more synergy among security agencies, saying there is need to eschew rivalry and envy to tackle insecurity.
CG Audi spoke on Wednesday in Abuja at the opening of a two-day training workshop on adopting best practices in Law Enforcement, Human Rights, Inter-Agency Collaboration, Leadership and Conflict Management for State Commandants of the Corps organized by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung KAS. According to him, the plan to reorganize the Corps is not to witch-hunt any officer, saying he is not on a revenge mission.
He said: “As you all are aware that I am barely two weeks old in office and after this workshop we are going to meet on Friday to brainstorm and I will unveil to you my roadmap, so that if you are with us you will join the train, if you are not with us you will find your way.
“In our bid to reposition the Service we are going to do some redeployment and if you are lucky to remain in your place, that is your luck and if you are not lucky and you are removed please do not feel bad because we must allow others to have a taste of commanding formation. There is no intention of any witch hunt or any revenge, we want to see that the past glory of NSCDC is brought back.”
He said, “the increasing rate of armed conflict occasioned by armed banditry, kidnappings, farmers/herders clashes, vandalism, community clashes, ethno/religious crisis among others, makes it imperative to explore opportunities provided by the workshops of this nature towards addressing and finding lasting solutions.
“To this end, the need for multi-agency approach through effective collaboration in the exchange of vital security information and intelligence. In addition, security agencies need to work as a team and harness one another’s core competence to build a formidable team to face these challenges head on.
“It is clear from the foregoing that security agencies need to avoid unnecessary rivalry and envy to forge a common front to secure our nation”.
Country Representative of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Dr. Vladimir Kreck said the German organization has been partnering with the NSCDC since 2013 to organize seminars, workshops and training programmes aimed at fostering interagency collaboration and promoting civil-military relations.
