The abducted pupils of Salihu Tanko Islamiyyah School, Tegina, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, have been released by their abductors after spending over three months in captivity.
The Head Teacher of the School, Alhaji Garba Alhassan who confirmed their release to Hotpen said they were released around Birnin-Gwari Village in Kaduna State.
The release followed the payment of an additional 18 million naira ransom and some supply of motorcycles as demanded by the kidnappers.
It may be recalled that the parents had previously paid a ransom of 50 million Naira.
He stated that the children were on their way to Minna, the capital of Niger State and that they would be met by state government officials today before being taken for a thorough medical examination.
Alhaji Garba said the children were in good condition.
One of the parents of the children also confirmed the release to Daily Trust on the telephone.
on May 30, 2021, armed men stormed an Islamiyya School in Tegina, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, and kidnapped over 300 pupils.
Six of them died of acute malnutrition, according to recent reports.
