A Potiskum patriotic citizen, Isa Mohammed has handed over 850 trees to the management of the General Hospitals across the 17 Local Government Areas of Yobe State as part of his contributions towards ensuring green conductive environment for patients and their visiting relatives.
Speaking on the development, Isa Mohammed told newsmen that he procured the trees seedlings, nurtured it for 12 months and paid some people who had been nursed and guarded the tree under a monthly stipend.
He explained that the trees totaling over 850 that includes black currant and satellite species “each general hospital got 50 after transplant, they are now okay in good condition”.
His words:-“Our concern is about inculcating the love for trees amongst our people so that in future, they could pass the message to their children. We are also concerned about the need for the hospitals to have a green environment to have a healthy environment”.
Isa Mohammed, noted that he has observed that the trees, comprised of black currant and satellite, have survived and grown very fast from the seedlings stages, stressed that, their survival have shown that the his objectives to fund the projects for green environment would be achieved.
One of the official of the hospital who do not want his name mentioned said “Isa provided all the fund needed for the project and appreciated both the staff, the management of the hospital for their support, commitment for the success of the project, stressed that the signs of commitment they exhibited would not be forgotten.
Isa also states that “The Climate change can affect our economy, health, our agriculture, it could cause hazard. Some of these crises you are seeing in Nigeria was as a result of climate change. We are doing this to enabling you have a conducive working environment in the hospital. We are happy that this project has succeeded, over 90 percent of the tree have survived”.
He said that some of the trees have grown fast because of hospitals dedication, added that the he would continue to plant trees and encourage others to do the same in various locations in the state.
