The State Universal Basic Education Board Kano (SUBEB) under Kano State Better Education Service delivery for All (BESDA) programme in collaboration with World Bank have organize a four – day refresher Master training on Reading And Numeracy Activity (RANA).
Declaring the training open in Kaduna, the Executive Chairman, SUBEB, Dr, Danlami Hayyo, said” the refresher training aimed at updating the skill of master trainers who would step- down the training at Local Government level, for RANA teachers.
Dr. Hayyo, who was represented by the Board Secretary, Alhaji Baffa Saleh the Talba of the Dokaji of Gaya, said” that the training designed to improve literacy and Numeracy for primary school pupils, then urged the participants to put effort, the purpose of the training however is to improve skills of( BESDA teachers, applauding the significant of RANA, Dr. Hayyo noted that the teaching adopted by RANA is Fun, full of songs and it is activity and learner based as well as use local language ( Hausa) during facilitation.
Dr. Hayyo urged parents and community members to support Government and children in the improvement of education in the state by providing all what is required for learning, in addition, Dr. Hayyo enumerate some success recorded of RANA programme in BESDA COHORT II such as ability of the learners to read and write legibly, improve professional development of teacher as well as expose the learners to letters and words recognition and numeracy.
However, the SUBEB Chairman commend the effort of state government under the leadership of Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for timely release of enough fund to support Basic Education every year and call upon the participants to extend the skills and knowledge acquired during the training to the teachers at LGEA level.
The state BESDA Consultant Dr. Gali Sa’idu informed the participants, that BESDA is a World Bank supported programme, aimed at bringing back out of school children back to school and improve their literacy level, therefore he appealed to the participants to contribute towards improving the literacy level of the children.
In their separates remarks, the Director Academic Service and Director Quality Assurance, Alhaji Almu Musa Baba and Mallam Mustafa Madaki Huguma said urged the participants to reciprocate the gesture by supporting BESDA Programme in the state and ensures that prompt monitoring of teaching RANA in primary schools in order to achieve better result.
Some of the participants, Dr. Hannatu Ado Ahmad and Mallam Ubale Garba thanked the organizers for proper arrangement and pledged to work hard for achievement of the sets goals of BESDA programme.
