Centre Trains Kano Science Schools Teachers on ICT For Effective Career Counseling

HOTPEN – A Social Enterprise, Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has organized a one-day workshop for Career Officers of the Science and Technical Schools Board, Kano State on the use of Digital Technologies for Guidance and Counselling.
This, according to the organization was initiated in a bid to promote the use of digital technologies among career counselors in response to the current global digital trend of being initiative and productive.
The training which took place at Hall B, CITAD’s main office in Kano, attracted more than 50 participants across Science and Technical Schools in Kano.
Speaking at the workshop, the Executive Director of the Centre, Engr. Y.Z Ya’u said exposing the Career Officers to future-focused technological tools, targeted at mainstreaming the resources into guidance and counseling is key in grooming students’ career prospects.
He said “As a technology-driven organization, we want improve how career officers in secondary schools are discharging their duties in advising students for a career advancement by leveraging on technology to make the system more effective and easier”
He added that “We need a technology-focused school environment where teachers will use technology, creativity, and innovation to mentor students and choose the right type of behaviors that will help them develop, grow, progress, educationally and morally to become a responsible members of the society”.
The participants were equipped on the knowledge of emerging computing tools and digital associated platforms meant to facilitate growth and positive career adjustment for sustainable development.
Papers presented during the workshop include; Use of Technology in Career Counselling by Mal. Kamal Umar, Nurturing Creativity and Innovation in Young People by the Executive Director of the Centre, Engr. Y.Z Yau, Labour Markets Dynamics and Career Counselling of Young Students by Dr. Mohammed Aminu Aliyu and Pathways to Promoting Reading Culture among Students of Secondary Schools by Mal. Haruna Adamu Hadejia.
