Media Should Provide Platform for Political Parties that will Add Value to People’s Lives – Commissioner

HOTPEN – The Kano State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Muhammad Garba has advised the media to give all the necessary support and provide a platform to all the political parties to enable choose candidates and political parties that will be able to add value to their lives.
Muhammad Garba advised while delivering a speech at the swearing-in ceremony of the executives of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kano chapter on Saturday held at the Press Center, Kano.
The Commissioner referred to the role of journalists in dealing with the problem of insecurity in the country as most important while calling on journalists to live up to expectations.
His words:- “I want to follow suit, we have to be concerned, especially at this material time that we are focused on the transition program.
“The media should try as much as possible to assist the transition so that at the end of it we will be able to have a smooth transition. So that we can have a credible election that will be acceptable by all.
He further called on journalists to play the role of ensuring a peaceful transition to the next regime judging by challenges on the ground.
According to him:- “It is very vital to note that, if you look at the pages of newspapers today or listen to the broadcast stations, the whole news items surround issues of elections.
“The only way media can assist is by ensuring that you support the Independent National Commission as well as all the stakeholders involved.
“President Muhammad Buhari is committed to a fair election going by the pronouncement that he is going to ensure that elections are free and fair.
