Girls’ Education: A Tool For Human Capital Development – Felicia Onibon
HOTPEN – Parents in Kano state have been charged to ensure full education and general skills development for the girl-child at all times. Making the charge during a two-day training for monitors of the Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment – (AGILE), a consortium project of the World Bank, Federal and Kano state governments; speaking through the project Deputy Coordinator, the project technical Manager – from the Change Managers International Network, Mrs Felicia Onibon said, the girls have greater roles to play in both shaping and blending the society.
She said the inclusion of all girls in education, and the provision of access to resources, safe space and skills will be the veritable tools for improved community development, economic and social development.
Mrs Onibon, a Development Consultancy expert, said it is equally essential for governments, communities and individuals to foster skills development for the girl-child that would translate to self sufficiency, efficiency and harmonious socioeconomic growth and stability.
In the same vain, the project coordinator, Alhaji AdoTafida Zango said the AGILE project intends to alleviate the multiple challenges facing the girls’ education through multidimensional strategies and broad spectrum approach.
Ado Tafida reiterated that the AGILE project is an embodiment and the foundation for character shaping that provides the push for sustainable growth and development as envisioned by SDG Goal 4.
Adding value to the presentations, the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Consultant for the project. Mr Onibon said the quality of the project in terms of infrastructural facilities will go a long way in stimulating and strengthening the Demand and Supply elements of the education, and the people’s socio – economic promotion in the focus states of Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Plateau, Ekiti, Kaduna and Borno.
The monitors trained will serve as the bridge and links between the project intervention schools and communities on one hand, and the government on the other by stimulating and providing regular and clear roadmap and advises that will make the project fantastically successful.
The project has two Components covering small and bigger school improvement projects as planned by each School Based Management Committee (SBMC) based on their identified priorities.
Other focus areas of the AGILE project include system strengthening, community action mobilization, vigorous and effective monitoring that would enhance efficiency and efficacy in both demand and supply chain.
