HOTPEN – The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), says data has shown a decline in the cases of gender-based violence in Kano state.
This was made known by the Centre’s Gender Technical Assistant, Zainab Aminu while addressing newsmen on the need to carpet the challenges of gender-based violence in the state.
Zainab revealed that “In comparison with the data obtained in previous months, there is a visible decline in reported cases. 100 cases were reported as compared to the 140 cases reported in the previous month”.
According to her, “The Centre would continue to advocate and improve awareness against GBV, but we still urge the citizens to take responsibility in their environment to see that issues on violence against gender are curbed”.
Aminu said, “We would like to commend the efforts of all stakeholders on their relentless effort to create awareness against GBV, while also commending the state government on their efforts so far”.
“We also want to urge the public to continue to report cases of GBV for us to achieve a safe society”.
“We will like to recommend that the government see to the domestication of Child’s Protection Bill, VAPP Act and or review of the existing Penal Code”.
The center renewed its call for the establishment of a gender abuse monitoring unit in Higher Education Institutions, the Ministry of Education, and its parastatal responsible for education at different levels and in the schools.
