HOTPEN – A Non-Governmental Organisation, Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), has on Tuesday, organized a two-day training for 20 youths on mitigating the spread of Gender Violence in Kano.
This, according to the organization, is aimed at promoting inclusive participation of all and sundry to curb the scourge of violence against gender among people of the state.
Hotpen reports that the training, held at Hall B, CITAD Office, Kano, was supported by Ford Foundation to advance the enviable and noble campaign against gender.
Earlier in his remarks, the Executive Director of the Centre, Engr. Y.Z Ya’u said GBV is posing a significant threat to the general well-being of human societies. Therefore, there is the need for multiplication of voices to advocate against GBV among communities.
The Executive Director, represented by the Centre’s Administrative and Research Assistant, Buhari Abba explained that, this is the 3rd set of individuals being trained to advocate against GBV, with the first and second batch comprising 40 individuals each.
According to him ”the champions comprised of both men and women as well as people living with disabilities.”
Ya’u charged the participants to step down the training to their respective communities so as to reduce gender violence to the barest minimum.
On her part, the Centre’s Gender Technical Assistant, Zainab Aminu said, CITAD developed a software for the champions to use in reporting gender-based violence cases in their host communities.
“We use the reports from the application to inform our monthly press conference that we carry out as well as to inform security agencies for swift action”.
Abdullahi Isyaku, who spoke on behalf of the participants commended CITAD for organizing the program.
Abdullahi said they were exposed to various degrees of Gender Based Violence in their communities and how it affects them.
“We will step down the knowledge and skills we obtained from the training towards combating gender-based violence in our immediate communities”.
