The United Nations children and educational fund (UNICEF) and Federal University of Kashere in Gombe state have signed a memorandum of understanding to promote the study of communication for social and behavioral change.
Mrs.Christian Munduate Country Director UNICEF said in Kashere on Tuesday that with the development, communication experts will be produced to create social balance in the society.
She said that , the signing of memorandum of understanding between UNICEF and the federal university of kashere Gombe state is to produce experts that will address the negative narrative in the society.
She said, choosing federal university of kashere to pilot the project is deliberate, considering the availability of resources and enabling environment created by the management of the institution to enable the project to become a reality.
“ Introduction of Communication for Social and behavioral change federal university of kashere will produce experts that will compete favorably in the global arena in promoting women and children needs, especially in the north-eastern part of the country.
There are so many challenges in Nigeria affecting children and women wellbeing, if not addressed” We will never reach a prosperous Nigeria hence the need for Communication for Social and behavioral change, “she said.
Prof.Umaru Pate Vice Chancellor Federal university of kashere (FUK) said Communication for Social and behavioral change is the capacity that need to be developed so that “We can have specialist that can always be there for more development, specifically health of women and children.
He said” We are in the era of fake news and disinformation, stressing that information desimination cannot be taken for granted hence the need to train people who can counter the negative narrative being bandied on different social media platforms.
