A Coalition of Arewa Media Activists and Civil Society Groups has hailed the APC Governor’s Forum and the leadership of the National Assembly for their stand against the “unpopular” Naira redesign policy being implemented by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The groups who made the commendation in a press conference in Kano on Wednesday, also saluted the efforts of the APC Governors and the leadership of the National Assembly in pursuing President Muhammadu Buhari and the Governor of the CBN,Mr. Godwin Emefiele, to reconsider the policy.
Similarly, the groups commended “the courageous efforts of the three APC Governors of Kaduna,Kogi and Zamfara states to drag the CBN to the Supreme Court with a view to obtaining an injunction stopping the Apex bank ” from carrying out its obnoxious plan of ending the time frame within which the now old version of the 200,500 and 1000 Naira denominations will no longer be legal tenders by February 10,2023.”
These efforts, the groups said, were “the true spirit of our party, the APC and our Presidential Candidate,Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
They frowned at the Naira redesign policy which they said had almost grounded businesses across the country and as well caused untold hardships to the citizens.
The Coalition said the policy was neither the policy of the APC nor that of the party’s Standard Flagbearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, but an alleged mission of the CBN Governor who attempted to contest for the APC presidential ticket alongside the Jagaban.
“Thus, he allegedly collaborated with some highly-placed politicians in the Villa whose preferred candidate was defeated by Tinubu and wishes to use the Naira redesign policy to bring down the APC in the presidential election,”the group said.
The group assures Nigerians that Tinubu and APC are against the Naira redesign policy and regrets the inconveniences the measure has caused Nigerians, adding that,”smiles will soon return to the faces of Nigerians immediately Asiwaju Bola Tinubu becomes the President of Nigeria.”
The group then condemned the reported support of the Naira redesign policy by the PDP presidential candidate,Atiku Abubakar, describing it as “callous, insensitive and indifferent to the sufferings of the common man.”
