The National Population Commission Jigawa State has trained and deployed no fewer than 786,741 personnel to work in the fourth coming 2023 headcount census, Head of Department, Technical, Umar Mahmud Jingino revealed.
According to Umar Jingino out of the total number 623,797 enumerators, 125,994 Supervisors, 24,001 Data Quality Assistants, while 12,000 Field Coordinators, 1,000 Data Quality Managers, 1,639 Training Centre Administrators and 59,000 LGA level facilitators.
Speaking at a one day capacity building workshop for Journalists on effective reporting of the 2023 population and housing census held in Dutse, Jingino explained that adequate training of personnel to work in the fourth coming headcount census is a key preparatory activity for the exercise, while the quality of the data depends on the competence and skill of the personnel engaged.
The HOD stated further that, the training which is organized in stages commenced with the training of Census Specialized Workforce (CSW) and facilitators who will in return train enumerators, supervisors, field supervisors,data Quality assistants and data quality managers, “The training equally involves self-learning study, online training with monitored simulated hands-on and in-person classroom and hands-on training”. He noted.
The commission he maintained is working with development partners who are willing to support NPC for the success of the exercise, with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) as the lead partner providing overall technical assistance support to the commission for the next population and housing census.
Said he:- “The support is in line with international best practices and (UNFPA) is negotiating with several partners for additional funding and technical assistance which includes United Nations partners agencies, potential support from US Census Bureau.
“Planning for a major donors’ conference is underway to mobilise technical financial and material resources for the census as well as engage on the census agenda in the context of national and international development goals”.
