A large turnout of voters is being recorded in Kano, as the people set out to exercise their franchise in today’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Checks at some selected polling centres in the capital city found that the voters who are largely youths and women trooped out in large numbers as early as 7 a.m. to vote in the polls.
The polling centres visited included those at the Emir’s Palace,Kwalli Police Station,Unguwar Gini Comprehensive Health Centre,Dan Agundi, Government Junior Secondary School, Race Course, Magwan Primary School,all in Kano Municipal and Nasarawa Local Government Areas of the State.
It was, however, observed that in most of the polling centres visited election officials had yet to arrive, causing some impatience among the voters.
Security is also tight in and around the polling centres,as well as the roads leading to them, with combined teams of the Police, Military and the Civil Defence Corps, among others, screening people within the vicinities.
The streets of the city have been deserted, while shops and other businesses remain shut, as people have either stayed indoors or have gone out to vote.
