Inspite recent ruling by the Supreme Court, traders, transporters and fuel stations in Jigawa State are still rejecting the old N500 and N1000 notes as legal tender.
Hotpen has authoritatively gathered that, Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) and some commercial banks in Dutse, the Jigawa state capital are paying their customers with N500 and N1000 old Naira note while people keep rejecting the domination.
One of the customers, Dahiru Suleiman who spoke to Hotpen, narrated his orderly, saying “they gave me old Naira notes of N500 when i filled a deposit form inside the banking hall and I rejected it”.
Dahiru Daka explained that his reason for not collecting the old Naira notes given to him is that wherever he goes for any business transaction they will not accept it as such how can he collect?
Alhaji Muhammad Aliyu who shared same experience with Daka said collecting old Naira notes is a problem because even if collect it from the bank when you go to market especially in the remote areas they will reject it.
Reports in the state has indicated that large crowd of people remains in all the branches of commercial banks in the state especially at the Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) and main entrances of the bank premises.
It was however gathered that only few ATM’s are dispensing cash to customers, while POS operators are experiencing a hectic time due to absence of cash in the disposal while those having the cash are charging customers exorbitant fees.
