Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) says it has installed Smart meter across franchise in order to check rising cases of energy theft across its franchise.
The Chief Commercial Officer, Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf who hosted Reporters in his office on Thursday explained that the Kano DisCo has to embraced technology to be ahead of customers engaged in the unwholesome practices.
Abubakar Yusuf said “its heart warming to let you know that we now watch the activities of our customers from the comfort of our office.”
KEDCO chief disclosed that “we have caught a number of Customers engaged in meter bypass from this office and had on several occasions dispatched our team to do the needful”
He revealed that KEDCO major challenges of late rest on energy theft through Meter bypass, adding that vandalisation of its property have been reduced due to proactive steps by security agents
He assured that KEDCO would continue to partner with security agencies to sustained the tempo across franchise.
Mr. Yusuf however attributed the persistent power outage in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa to the poor supply of power from the national grid, adding that under the current arrangement KEDCO is entitled to 8 percentof total generation
He maintained that “Electricity is not a commodity you can hold, certainly if there are drop in generation, it would affect supply.
