Zamfara unveils IDPs five years strategic plan, displacement dashboard

Zamfara State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has Thursday unveiled 5-Year Strategic Plan, Banditry Displacement Dashboard and Zamfara Humanitarian At a Glance for the smooth operation of the ministry.
The flagging-off of the documents was held during a Sendforth in honour of the Commissioner of the ministry Hajiya Fa’ika M. Ahmed organised by the staff of the ministry Thursday.

Zamfara State of the ministry in a statement made available to Hotpen Friday stated that Commissioner while unveiling the 5-Year Strategic Plan, Banditry Displacement Dashboard and Zamfara Humanitarian At a Glance disclosed that the decision of the ministry to inaugurate the projects was aimed at finding a strategic direction for the ministry towards ensuring its mandate of formulation of policies and programmes while protecting the right and dignity of IDPs and vulnerable population in the state.
She said “the development of the Banditry Displacement Dashboard which also contains partners dashboard is meant for effective data management of the displaced persons as a result of both man-made and natural disasters adding that some of the plans initiated by the ministry are the ongoing Emergency Response Plan and the Domestication of the National IDPs Policy.”
The Commissioner explained that the ministry has been able to appoint 14 Desk Officers across the 14 Local Government Areas of the state for swift reporting of disaster related incidences and provision of feedback, Constitution of CSOs as watchdogs for the monitoring of interventions and high level advocacy to International Development Partners, International and National Non-governmental organisations and philanthropists.
Ahmed stated that the ministry distributed relief materials (food and non-food) to over two hundred thousands heads of households, twenty seven trucks of medicaments to Health Care Centres across the 14 Local Government Areas and support to widows in Kanoma Town of Maru Local Government Council.
She said 172 trucks of COVID-19 palliatives were successfully distributed to vulnerable population in the state while 425 IDPs and youths benefited with livelihood items which include: 200 Industrial Sewing Machines, 50 Tricycle Cargo Keke-napep and 175 3.3KVA Generator as empowerment support.
Fa’ika Ahmed described that despite the ongoing construction of Transitional IDPs Resettlement being constructed by the ministry in Gusau, “we were able to provide Electric Boreholes and the installation of Solar Streets Lights to 3 IDPs locations in 3 Local Government Areas among other numerous achievements.” She maintained
The Commissioner applauded the effort of Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle in supporting the ministry and the partners for their unwavering commitments and confidence in the ministry’s activities. She further expressed her appreciation to the staff of the ministry for their support and cooperation.
She thereafter appealed to the incoming administration to ensure effective implemention of the 5-Year Strategic Roadmap for the wellbeing of IDPs and vulnerable persons.
Speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry Barrister Sani Nasarawa commended the Commissioner for serving the good people of Zamfara State particularly the needy with honesty, prudence and due process and assured her of continuous efforts towards providing succour to IDPs and those of vulnerability amongst communities in the state.
The Permanent Secretary on behalf of staff of the ministry presented Award Of Excellence to the commissioner in recognition of her excellent performance.
