The recent developments in Kano state under the leadership of Governor Engr. Abba Kabir has sparked positive reactions among residents and Nigerians at large. Since taking office, Governor Kabir has wasted no time in formulating policies and initiating tangible actions to drive the rebuilding and remodeling of the Kano metropolis.
His swift and decisive actions demonstrate his readiness and preparedness to govern and restore the state to a path of development and growth, following eight years of controversy and corruption under the previous administration.
One of Governor Kabir’s commendable moves has been his commitment to fulfilling campaign promises, particularly in the field of education, a core value of the Kwankwassiyya movement. He has reopened more than twenty technical and vocational institutions of higher learning in the state that were unjustly closed down by his predecessor, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. These institutions were established by the previous administration to provide skills training to the youth, promote self-reliance, create wealth, and combat unemployment, thereby enhancing security and stability in the commercial city.
Additionally, Governor Kabir has demonstrated his resolve to address the issue of illegal structures occupying public areas. He has embarked on a city-wide reclamation and remodeling project, demolishing structures that were illegally sold or allocated to cronies of the former governor, Ganduje.
The once-beautiful and vibrant commercial city had been marred by unauthorized encroachments, converting reserved spaces such as schools, prayer grounds, the cemetery, and even the Sani Abacha World Stadium into plazas and shops. The governor’s intervention in this regard is a welcome step towards restoring order and reclaiming public assets for the benefit of all.
Governor Kabir’s commitment extends beyond education and urban planning. He has also shown great interest in improving healthcare facilities, waterworks, transportation, and other crucial sectors. These actions highlight his comprehensive approach to governance, aimed at reviving the comatose state of affairs and addressing the pressing needs of the people of Kano.
However, it is important to address the claims made by the opposition that Governor Kabir is on a revenge mission. Such allegations are baseless and untrue. The governor is simply fulfilling the mandate given to him by the people of Kano state: to reclaim public properties, reform the education sector, create employment opportunities, and reconstruct the entire state. His actions are guided by a genuine desire to restore Kano to its former glory and uplift the lives of its citizens.
In less than a week since assuming office, Governor Abba Kabir has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his promises, effectively “walking the talk.” He has proven his mettle as a leader who means business and has the best interests of the people at heart.
The doubts expressed by some, including the opposition, regarding his suitability for the position, have been dispelled by his swift and purposeful actions.
It is now evident that Engr. Abba Kabir’s appointment as governor was a wise decision, considering the material challenges facing Kano state. Under his leadership, the state is poised for a remarkable transformation, one that will bring about positive change and lay the foundation for sustainable development.
In conclusion, Governor Abba Kabir has hit the ground running, wasting no time in initiating policies and implementing projects that will drive the development and growth of Kano state. His commitment to education, urban planning, and various other sectors is evident in his swift actions. It is indeed a time of renewed hope and optimism for the people of Kano, as Engr. Abba Kabir proves that he is not just a leader who talks the talk, but one who walks the talk.
