The Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation based in Lagos has settled school fees for 22 vulnerable students in Zamfara state with a view to enable them have access to basic education.
The executive director of the foundation Prince Sulaiman Olagunju stated this at the official disbursement of the school fees to the beneficiaries in Gusau the state capital Monday .
Prince Sulaiman Olagunju who was represented by the chief accountant of the foundation Dr. Yusuf Adelakun, said the gesture was to ensure vulnerable children acquired both western and Islamic knowledge for better society.
According to him the foundation was established for over twenty years ago in Lagos, stressing that, 27 states including Abuja will benefit from the foundation program this year.
He further explained that 18 states were contributing their Zakat and endowment to the foundation every year, adding that over four million Naira has been recovered by the foundation for distribution to vulnerable people across the country.
“The idea to float an entity that would revive the most neglected pillar of Islam informed the birth of Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation, otherwise known as ZSF in the year 2000”. He said
According to him, the foundation is a non-governmental and non-profit organization incorporated in Nigeria with the Corporate Affairs Commission (RC 21237 in 2002).
“Our primary objective is to deliver quality Zakat assessment, collection and distribution services to both private and public individuals as well as corporate organizations, providing humanitarian and welfare services to mankind and Muslims in particular”. He added
Prince Sulaiman Olagunju further explained that idea for the establishment of the foundation is about bringing succour to Muslims and mankind generally in special areas like emergency relief, prisons, welfare homes, orphanages and widow amongst others.
“In fulfillment of the obligation of Allah to acquire knowledge, we’re seriously concerned about the education of Muslim students. We pay for their school fees and give grants for research”. He emphasized
He called on the benefiting students in the country to concentrate on their study for them to become good ambassadors of their respective localities.
He called on well to do individuals in the country to always use what they have in assisting less privileged for peace and development of society to thrive.
