Determine to address the menace of erosion and flood devastating communities in Garki local government area of Jigawa State, Senator representing Jigawa Northwest, Babangida Hussaini (Walin Kazaure) has Inaugurated the execution of the project expected to gulp over ₦1billion.
Hotpen reports that, the community worst affected in Garki local government is Kore where erosion causes havoc and untold hardship to the community for decades
Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony for the project, Senator Babangida Hussaini said, the project is part of the 2023 campaign promises earlier made.
His words: It is still in my memory how over 100 people died, over 200,000 displaced as a result of last year’s flooding, therefore it is necessary to do everything possible to checkmate the disaster from future reoccurrence”.
Senator Babangida noted that, the state government under the leadership of Governor Malam Umar Namadi has taking all necessary measures through executing various multi billion Naira projects to control the perennial flood in the state.
“As a national law makers it is compulsory upon us to complement the effort of the state government, and I believed this project we are inaugurating under constituency project will help in addressing the challenges for Kore community and Taura local government at large”. The Senator stressed.
Hotpen reports that, there was a jubilation among the community of Kore for the inauguration of the project which they discribed as a saviour.
According to Sale Shafiu one of the victims of last year’s flooding, said over 50 houses were destroyed by last year flooding including his own.
“We are very happy with the project, we are optimistic that, if this project is completed it will bring to an end of this erosion which is causing flooding that become a nightmare to the community ” he declared.
A 70 years old Ibrahim Sani commended the Senator and called for a quality work and timely delivery particularly from the contractor as NIMET predict another round of devastating flooding in Nigeria.
Similarly, Senator Babangida Hussaini has commissioned Skills Acquisition Center in Garki local government of the state described it as a training ground for women and youth in tackling poverty, supporting job creation, growth and development.
