Fracas, pandemonium, confusion, anguish, death and destruction were the features that greeted Israel when on Saturday Hamas fired more than 5,000 rockets from Gaza strip towards Israel.
The death toll has taken at least the lives of 1,000 Israelites, as the Palestinians now brace up for “living another Nakba”.
A microblogging site X suggested that 9 UN humanitarian services staff were killed by the Israel retaliatory strikes on Gaza. Civilians and military were not spared in the unassuming cross fire.
Yanis Varoufakin – former Greek Finance Minister once said, ‘it is so naive for those who think that Hamas/Palestinians will lay down their arms and go back to the open air prison, where they are constantly suffocated by the Israel apartheid state; such that in former South Africa.
Is Hamas attack on Israel a militancy? No – the problem is by and large the Israel’s brutal racism and discrimination. It is a systematic genocide – a replica of apartheid South Africa.
It remains unclear as to how Hamas took more than 1,000 Israel forces by surprise in such a devastatingly deadly and gruesome death tolls; murdering and capturing more Jews in a day than at anytime since the Holocaust.
Netanyahu is now under intense pressure, and he is very jittery of collapse of his government. That was the case in 1973 (after the Yom Kippur war), with Golda Meir in 1982, with Menachen Beghin in the first Lebanon war, and in 2006 with Ehud Olmert in the second Lebanon war. “The Clock is Ticking”.
As Israel pummels Gaza with airstrike, and imposes a ‘siege’ on the enclave and prepares for possible ground invasion to decimate Hamas, Netanyahu also needs to quickly find a way to free 150 or so ‘ hostages’ being held in Gaza.
As Presler suggested, Israel cares least about ‘Netanyahu’s political future’, but the unity of and stability of Israel. The Nazis on the other side will be much happy to see Israel’s conclusive destruction to the end. But whether the Israel Defence Forces will be able to slay the Nazis and Hamas is right now unclear. Netanyahu may then call for a formation of a ‘National Unity Emergency Government’ with a view to insulate him from calls for his stepdown.
The world keeps on looking in a seemingly helpless gesture that exposes the global hypocrisy and diabolical positions on issues of immense global significance. Religion surely has a big role in the game, but NATO and Israel tend to tilt the discourse towards pure politics and economy with a view to obliterate global focus and understanding of the outstanding issues.
The attrition war between Russia and the EU/NATO on Ukraine seems to be taking it’s tolls and new dimensions in the Middle East, and across the globe – a very essential global bridge and political subject. Europe and indeed NATO are now facing one of the most grevious and enigmatic challenges in the history of global politics, economy, domination and repression.
