The Coalition of Arewa Civil Society Group, has sternly warned that, except dialogue is adopted as a means of addressing the nationwide hunger protest in the country, the situation will further degenerate into total chaos and anarchy
Speaking to newsmen in Kano during the protest, the Secretary of the group, Comrade Auwalu Shuaibu, said, “we had envisaged the protest would he devoid of any violent conduct, up until noon, on the D day, all protests across Kano and other northern states were peaceful, until some hoodlums invaded and started making trouble, looting everything in sight.
“Save for the proactive and professional conduct of security personel who quickly contained the looming breakdown of law and order, we would have had a serious breach of peace”.
He continued, “at this point, anyone who thinks this protests, especially in northern Nigeria will end without any form of violence, is living in self denial. In fact, what we’ve seen across Kano State and other across the North, we are convinced more than ever before that dialogue, remain the best and viable option out of this quagmire”.
“Despite calls made to some sister members and organizers of the protests to adopt non confrontational stance, by choosing dialogue over protest, such call was unheeded. Therefore, the end result is the imposing of a 24hour curfew in the State. which, to me is quite timely, to prevent further breakdown of law and order”.
Speaking in the same vein, the co-convener Amb. Abdullahi D Muhammad said, “we saw this coming but nevertheless, it not too late to adopt dialogue. As stakeholders in the movement, we urge all parties to embrace dialogue as we have already set in motion, process of engaging government ams and other stakeholders to find an exit plan out of this situation”.
Recall, due to looting and violence during the nationwide protest, some state governments, including Kano had imposed a dusk to dawn curfew.
