As nationwide protests entered 3rd day, Jigawa State Police Command has arrested 212 suspects and 74 others were charged to court.
The suspects were arrested in connection with the recent violent protests that rocked the state, Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed T. Abdullahi, announced at a press briefing at the State’s Command headquarters in Dutse.
Hotpen reports that, the protests which began on August 1, 2024, saw unruly teenagers engaging in destructive behavior, ignoring appeals and pleas to desist from violence.
The situation escalated, resulting in the destruction of government properties, disruption of economic activities, and spread of violence to other local government areas.
According to the CP, to restore law and order, the police deployed additional personnel and equipment, while on its part the state government declared a 24-hour curfew across the state.
CP AT Abdullahi expressed gratitude to the Governor Namadi, sister agencies, and law-abiding citizens for their support and cooperation, appealed to parents and teachers to discourage their children and wards from participating in any violent protest.
He said:- “Apart from suspects arrested and others that were charged to court recoveries have been made including motorcycles, tricycles, bicycles, bags of fertilizer, chairs, cartons of mosquito nets, rice, and office furniture’.
The Police Boss assured citizens of their commitment to providing a safer environment and urged everyone to remain calm and cooperative.
