At least twenty people were confirmed dead while trying to escape from armed bandits attack in Kali village of Gummi local government areas in Zamfara state after their boat capsized in the River.
Resident in the area identified as Malam Ibrahim Lawali Kalli told our correspondent in a telephone conversation that the bandits attacked the village at around 1:00pm last Sunday.
“The bandits Last Sunday were sited by the communities heading to Kalli village on motorcycles carrying heavy weapons to unleashed attack in the area which led to the flee of the villagers for their safety”. He said
According to him the boat was overloaded and capsized along Birnin Magaji river which led to death of 20 people.
According to him, five corpses were recovered at Falale river, four at Birnin Magaji river while three were also recovered at Gadar Gummi river as they were trying to escape to Iyaka village in the area during the incident.
“So far we recovered 12 corpses and additional six was also recovered today who lost their lives as a result of capsizing of their booth while trying to escape from the bandits attack in Kalli village of Gummi local government in the state and have since been buried according to Islamic injunction”.
Malam Ibrahim Lawali further stated that the bandits terrorized communities of Kwammaka, Kwammaka Jibi, Kwammaka Mai Kasuwa, kallin and Kazura villages in Gummi local government under Birnin Magaji ward.
Other communities terrorized by the bandits under Falale ward in Gummi local government council according to him include, Tsundum, kukoki, Falale, Iyaka, Kilgore, Gidan Jibga, Maikutsa, Honda. Adding that in Gamo ward same local government the community affected by banditry, include, Adarawa, Rikiya, Wawan Bice, Kilgore, Adarawa , Gidan Rana, Ferfertu, Jabaka respectively.
He further hinted that the resurgence of banditry in the area began on 1/7/2024 in the area after spending over one year without any attack in Gummi local government by the bandits.
He appealed to Zamfara state government and federal government to come to the rescue of the communities in the area for peace to thrive.
