A social media user, Ismail Yusif, has issued a chilling death threat against SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Kano State Command, over the arrest and rehabilitation of young protesters during the recent protests in the state, PRNigeria reports.
The police spokesperson, Kiyawa, had confirmed the arrest of protesters suspected of looting the NCC Industrial Park, the Kano High Court, and other locations in the state during the nationwide protests over hunger and hardship in Kano State.
In a Facebook post, Yusif unleashed a barrage of derogatory comments, labelling Kiyawa as an “Evil Reincarnate” and accusing him of not wanting to see other children prosper. Apart from cursing the police spokesperson’s parents, the social media influencer made a direct death threat, saying, “If I have the opportunity to meet you face-to-face, I will cut your life short.”
Kiyawa has always provided updates on security situations, including measures being taken by the service to address insecurity in Kano.
PRNigeria observes that apart from the death threat against Kiyawa, the same social media influencer had previously threatened the Inspector General of Police and cursed men and women in police uniforms.
The Kano State Police Command has not commented on the death threat, but sources indicate that they are taking the matter seriously.
Kano State government announced that over 632 suspects have been arraigned for vandalizing public facilities and looting during the protests.
A Mobile Court ordered the remand of 632 protesters for alleged criminal conspiracy, theft, unlawful assembly, inciting disturbance, trespass, and mischief by fire during the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest.
Speaking to newsmen, the State Attorney General, Haruna Dederi, said the state government set up three mobile courts to prosecute the defendants, and the case diary would be studied before the next adjourned date.
