A Non-governmental Organisations (NGO’s) based in Kebbi State have called on the attitudinal change by the male households from the primitive to the modern way of life
This according to them, by allowing their wives to be attending hospitals for ANC and Breastfeeding their new-born babies exclusively for six months.
Speaking with media representatives at MCH in Birnin Kebbi, National Coordinator Association Of Women Living with HIV In Nigeria (ASWHAV), Esther Hiindi explained that ASWHAV, in collaboration with the Global Network of people living with HIV (GNP+) is implementing through the last mile grants, innovative approach for working deeply with communities to understand the needs and priorities of the most under-served to promote and amplify their representation through capacity building, agenda setting and advocacy.
She added that, the world Breastfeeding Week is celebrated annually on August 1st to 7th with 2024 Global theme” Closing the GAP: Breastfeeding Support for All which is a clarion call to action through Global and national campaign to evaluate progress towards the protection, promotion and support of Breastfeeding in Kebbi State and Nigeria as a whole.
According to her, the objective of the campaign is to improve the healthy of babies , uphold the rights of structurally silenced women to Breastfeeding anywhere and anytime , Sensitises women of productive age in their derversities on the importance of Breastfeeding and Foster a culture of support and inclusion for nursing mothers.
Also speaking, Kebbi State Nutrition Officer (SNO) Eunice Erey Dabai said the state was in emergency on nutrition and there was need of collaborative efforts by all unsundry to sensitise Households for attitudinal change from the primitive to modern way of life.
She said ” we need our women to know the importance of Breastfeeding for six months periods, not only that let them even understand on how they will handle their new-born babies while Breastfeeding in order to have a grown up and healthy children “
