The All Progressives Congress (APC) Bauchi State Chapter has raised alarm over an alleged attempt by the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to disenfranchise citizens in the forthcoming local government council elections scheduled for August 17, 2024.
Hotpen reports that the Commission has fixed today Saturday Aug 17, 2024 for the local government elections in the State.
Mr Rabiu Garba, legal Adviser of the party made the allegations at an emergency news conference in Bauchi.
He accused the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) of compromising the electoral process, citing several irregularities.
“The BASIEC Failure to provide adequate election materials, including ballot papers and result sheets, at designated voting centers.
“Plans to announce election results while voting is still in progress.
“Lack of transparency in the identities of presiding officers, collation officers, and returning officers,” Garba stated.
He added that the Commission also excluded APC from critical stakeholders’ meetings concerning the election.
He condemned the alleged move to rig the election and vowed not to accept the outcome of any election marred by irregularities.
The legal officer called on BASIEC to ensure a transparent, free, and fair election that reflects the will of the people of Bauchi State.
He however urged the general public, especially the electorates, to be vigilant and ensure a hitch-free local government election.
