People Leaving With Disabilities in Jigawa state has called on Governor Malam Umar Namadi to include them among the beneficiaries of the ongoing federal government palliatives distribution in the state.
Chairman, Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD), Jigawa state chapter, Honourable Adamu Shu’aibu made the call in a statement made available to Hotpen, decried how people leaving with disabilities were marginalized among the 1,000 or 1,100 beneficiaries in 27 local government areas of the state.
The JONAPWD Chairman appealed to the state and federal governments by extension to make special provision in the ongoing palliative distribution to their members considering their various conditions.
Honourable Adamu explained that the government of Jigawa state under the leadership of Mal..Umar Namadi is trying in the inclusion aspect, however when it comes to the implementation in so many cases PWDs were left behind or totally ignored especially the issue of palliative distribution.
“The problem we have with the palliative distribution is that, even if the governor gave directives, the implementers ignored his directives at most times”. The chairman alleged.
According to him after observing that, the association communicated with the chairman palliative distribution who is also the state deputy governor, Engineer Aminu Usman and suggested to him that we need his intervention for our members to be given special treatment.
He added that, “on Friday 17 August another distribution exercise was launched but to the best of my knowledge none of our member (PWDs) benefits in Dutse local government which happened to be my home local government area. As a journalist who covered the launching ceremony, have you seen any person leaving with disabilities male or female among the beneficiaries?” He asked.
Hon. Shuaibu pointed out that “I received several calls from our members across the 27 local government areas where the exercise flagged off, my members asking me if we are parts of it. I told them to exercise more patience as we are yet to be contacted.
“We have earlier channeled our complaint to the Hon Speaker, Jigawa state house of Assembly, commissioner for special duties and special assistant to the governor on people living with disability for their kindly and timely intervention, we sent a reminder to the speaker on the earlier promise and are waiting for his response, we are confident that the out come will be positive.
He therefore expressed his association’s appreciation to the governor, and government of Jigawa state for implementing the Jigawa state Disabilities law, and considered his members in the recent teachers employment.
