The Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli, has on Wednesday, received the newly inaugurated leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Gombe State Chapter.
The visit of the new NUJ leadership led by its Chairman, Farouk Mu’azu Gombe, was coming shortly after their inauguration as part of significant steps towards fostering a stronger relationship between the government and the media in the state.
During the meeting, the DG Press congratulated the new leadership on their successful election, commending them for the peaceful conduct of the process while assuring them of the government’s unwavering support and readiness to collaborate with the union in advancing the development of Gombe State.
“The government values the role of the media in driving progress and development. We will continue to work hand-in-hand with the NUJ to ensure that the objectives of both the government and the union are met for the benefit of our people”, the DG stated.
Addressing the concerns of the union, the DG Press emphasized that the government is aware of the union’s challenges and is committed to addressing them promptly, assuring that the Governor will see to the completion of the Press Center for the union.
He urged the new leadership to maintain inclusiveness within the union, stressing that every member, irrespective of the election outcome, should be carried along in the union’s activities, saying “In this election, there are no winners or losers. The union is a family, and it is important that everyone works together for the common good.”
In his response, the new NUJ Chairman, Farouk Mu’azu Gombe, expressed gratitude to the DG Press for the warm reception and the government’s support in the conduct of the election, reaffirming his leadership’s commitment to working closely with the government to achieve its objectives, particularly in areas that will bring about the progress and development of Gombe State.
“We are ready to collaborate with the government in any capacity necessary to uplift the standards of journalism and contribute positively to the state’s development. We will continue with this productive partnership between the Gombe State Government and the NUJ for the good of all of us”, the Chairman stated.
The DG was joined in receiving the NUJ’s leadership by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on News Media and Digital Communication, Suleiman Musa Arzoo, his counterparts on Media and that of Audio-Visual, Safiyanu Danladi Mairiga and Bashir Mohammad as well as other staff of the Press Affairs Directorate.
