The Zamfara State Government has called for collaboration with NYSC in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in persons.
Pharm. Ishaq Ibrahim Anka, Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Substance Abuse Control and Human Trafficking Agency made the call during a courtesy visit at the NYSC Secretariat on Monday.
Pharm. Anka described drug abuse and human trafficking as two of the world’s largest crime business which affects people of all ages.
He said the agency was established by Governor Dauda Lawal to combat the twin problems in the state, adding that various programmes have already been lined up to actualise its mandate.
The Head of the Agency described the NYSC as an institution which moulds leaders of tomorrow and therefore called for its support in the area of enlightenment of the populace and posting of qualified personnel.
In his response, the State Coordinator, Mallam Muhammed Lawan Ahmed thanked the agency for identifying with the scheme.
He described drug abuse as a serious issue which breeds criminality in the society, disclosing that the scheme through it’s Community Development initiatives is actively involved in the campaign against the menace.
“We are ready and willing to collaborate with you. NYSC already has corps members on ground who are campaigning against these issues. On camp we also sensitize our corps members on drug abuse, illegal migration and human trafficking. We will work with you to ensure that this message spreads across board”, the Coordinator assured.
Present during the visit are Assistant Director, HRM, Mr Jacob Yawa and the AD CDS, Alhaji Sani Bayero.
On the Executive Secretary’s entourage include Mustapha Alhaji Garba, Director Administration, Nasiru Abdullahi, Director, Human Trafficking, Murtala Garba, Staff Officer and Aminu Abdullahi, Principal Private Secretary.
