The All Progressives Congress (APC), Kano State chapter on Sunday vowed to scrutinize the utilization of the N3 billion flood relief funds allocated by the federal government, citing concerns over potential diversion of resources.
The Chairman of the local chapter, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas in a statement that was made available to newsmen in Kano “expressed grave concerns about the transparency and accountability of the state government’s handling of relief funds. “
The tough talking Abbas cited the alleged diversion of 130 trucks of food intended for vulnerable households, which contravenes the federal government’s efforts to alleviate hunger.
He stressed that “The APC will not tolerate any malfeasance or misappropriation of funds meant to benefit the people of Kano,”.
Abbas however, emphasized. “President Bola Tinubu’s administration is committed to providing succor to impoverished households and vulnerable individuals, but the NNPP-led government in Kano appears to be undermining these initiatives.”
Abbas specifically highlighted the alleged involvement of senior NNPP officials in the diversion of palliatives, including Dr. Tukur Dayyabu Minjibir, Managing Director of KASCO, who was reportedly selling grains belonging to the state government.
To prevent such incidents, the federal government has established a committee, chaired by Deputy Senate President Sen. Barau Jibril, to oversee the equitable distribution of relief materials.
The APC chairman reaffirmed the party’s dedication to ensuring that the flood relief funds are utilized effectively and efficiently, benefiting those affected by the disaster.
“We will maintain rigorous oversight to prevent the politicization of relief funds and guarantee that they reach their intended recipients,” Abbas concluded.
