Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has dissolved the caretaker chairmen of all the 44 local government areas in the state.
SolaceBase reports that Gov. Yusuf announced the dissolution at a special meeting held at the Kano Government House, on Wednesday with the caretaker chairmen in attendance.
It could be recalled that the Kano State House of Assembly last week approved a two-month extension to the tenure of the 44 local government caretaker chairmen in the state.
According to the Speaker, Jibrin Ismail Falgore, the decision was made following a request submitted by the Deputy Governor of the state, who doubles as the Commissioner for Local Government, Comrade Abdul Salam Gwarzo, and read by the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Lawan Hussaini Dala, at plenary on Monday, September 9, 2024.
The extension, which will run from September 9 to November 9, 2024, was deemed necessary as the current tenure of the caretaker chairmen expired on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
The state local government elections in the state is scheduled for October 26, 2024.
However, the governor directed them to hand over the leadership of each local government to their respective Director of Personnel Management.
The dissolution applies to all chairmen, vice chairmen, secretaries, and councillors.
Governor Yusuf appreciated the caretaker chairmen for their contributions to the development of their areas and assured them of potential future collaborations.
In response, the caretaker chairmen thanked Governor Yusuf for the opportunity to serve their communities.
