Jigawa State government has expended whooping sum of over N3billion through the State Emergency and Management Agency (SEMA) to alleviate the suffering of all the affected victims.
The State government has equally solicited more assistance from all unsundry to assist the affected victims.
Executive Secretary SEMA, Dr. Haruna Mairiga made the revelation while fielding questions from journalists in his office, saying the flood was caused by the flow of a river from Plateau State down to Zandam village in Gwaram local government area resulting in the unfortunate incident.
According to Dr. Mairiga, other places affected by the devastating flood includes Nasarawa, Fagam all in Gwaram likewise Garki and other settlements were all submerged due to heavy rainfall.
The damages recorded at respective places where houses collapsed resulting in the death of 46 persons, over 12,000 hectares of farmland & other 9,000 hectares across the affected 18 local government areas all over the state were submerged.
Sequel the flood disaster that wreaked havoc in 18 out of 27 local government areas of Jigawa state, the Executive Secretary of the state emergency relief agency (SEMA) Dr. Haruna Magaji, made a passionate appeal for succour from all and sundry.
The Executive Secretary explained that the flood reached an alarming level that must call for immediate assistance from individuals, organizations, philanthropists and other general public.
He commended the state governor, Malam Umar Namadi for his commitment and timely intervention in saving the law ves of the affected victims.
He further stated that, the Agency had taken necessary measures against further occurrence in earnest.
His words:- “Government is up and doing to bring to an end of the annual devastating flood”.
Hotpen reports that more than 15,000 households were displaced by the flood and are now taking shelters at various primary and post primary schools soundly enjoying needed facilities as if they are in their respective houses and settlements.
Items procured and distributed to the affected victims of the flood across the state by SEMA include assorted food items such as rice, maize, supergetti, salt, vegetable oil, while medication has been provided to them.
