Prof. Sani Abubakar Lugga has demanded for the immediate resignation of Service Chiefs as they failed to overcome the insecurity problem bedevilling the nation.
Prof. Lugga who is the 5th Waziri of Katsina State stated this at a special twin lectures organised by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Katsina state chapter to celebrate the 37th year of the creation of the state.
He explained that the responsibility of protecting lives and property lies with the military and police, and they must find ways of ensuring peace in the country.
According to him service chiefs should be replaced with serious military officers capable of protecting the lives of Nigerians.
He explained that it is wrong to force communities to carry arms to defend themselves, “such never happened in history and it will escalate the problem of insecurity.
“if the federal government cannot address insecurity, the country’s constitution should be amended to allow states to have their police,” he noted.
Earlier, the state Deputy Governor, Lawal Faruk Jobe, commended the Union for organizing the lecture and called for its sustenance.L, added that the state government will continue to work with working journalists to move the state forward.
According to him, the administration of Dikko Radda has achieved a lot in the areas of education, health, agriculture, water supply, providing employment opportunities, among others.
In his speech, the state chairman of NUJ, Tukur Dan Ali, said the lecture will assist in asses progress achieved by the state and address challenges.
DanAli commended past and present leaders of the state for working to develop the state 37 years after its creation.
During the lecture two papers were presented that include Katsina State at 37, the Journey So far and 19 years after Dr Yusuf Bala Usman, his contribution to the development of politics and history of Katsina State.
