The Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission has announced that 11 out of 26 existing political parties have indicated interest to participate in the October 5th local governments election.
Executive Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Auwal Muhammad Harbo told newsmen in his office on the level of preparations about the forthcoming exercise, said the commission has already screened all the interested candidates, ensuring their eligibility to contest in the election.
According to him only the ruling APC has all its candidates purchased and filed nomination forms comprising chairmanship and councillorship, added that NNPP and PDP purchased nomination of two council chairmen and some ward councillors.
He said:-“The commission recruited 14,794 staff, including 14 personnel that would be stationed at the State Collation Center, to ensure the success of the election’. Harbo noted.
The Executive Chairman stated further that, the Commission has recruited 27 supervisors to provide oversight and guidance during the election across the 27 Local Government Areas.
Hon. Harbo explained that to facilitate the electoral process, the commission has recruited adhoc staff for the exercise, including Returning Officers, who will oversee the voting process in their respective Local Government Areas.
“These Returning Officers have been mandated to recruit adhoc staff in their areas to support the election.
The Chairman, however assured that, all measures have been taken to ensure the security and peaceful conduct of the exercise, “free, fair, and credible LG’s election will be conducted by JISIEC scheduled for October 5, 2024”. The Chairman assured.
