The Kebbi State House of Assembly has passed the electricity regulatory 2024 bill into law.
The bill was passed after sitting of the Committee on Rural and Community Development on the bill chaired by the Speaker of the Assembly, Hon Muhammed Usman Zuru.
Hon Zuru in the report of the committee disclosed that bill will allow government to establish the Electricity Regulatory Commission for the state in the areas of electricity generation, transmission, system operation, distribution, supply and promote access to electricity in the state through increased of private sector investments or public private sector partnerships in grid, mini-grid and other off grid electricity options using renewable and non-renewable fuel sources in the state 2024 and for any purposes connected therewith.
The Speaker also revealed that before it was passed, it went into first and second reading on the floor of the House and later passed on public hearing and later submitted to the assembly for deliberation and passed it into law.
Chairman committee on electricity regulatory bill, Hon Farouq Abubakar Maisudan told Journalists shortly after the passing of the bill that the committee has studied the bill which comprises of 120 sections and a schedule and in the process of scrutinising the bill, relevant stakeholders were invited for public hearings which was conducted on Tuesday September 24th, 2024.
Maisudan noted that bill will be a backing material for government establish and regulate as well as source revenue in power sector in the state.
