A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, Capt. Bala Jibrin, has warned party stakeholders against imposing former Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar (MA) as the party’s governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.
Addressing journalists in Bauchi on Monday, Jibrin alleged that some influential figures within the party were backing moves to return the former governor to power.
He specifically mentioned former Governor Isa Yuguda and the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, urging them to avoid actions capable of causing division within the APC.
According to him, many residents of the state still remember the controversies and political challenges that characterised the administration between 2015 and 2019.
Jibrin criticised the former governor’s leadership style, accusing his administration of neglecting workers, pensioners and key sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture and infrastructure.
He also faulted the alleged failure of the administration to employ 38 Bauchi indigenes who studied medicine in Egypt under a foreign scholarship programme initiated during Yuguda’s tenure.
The APC stalwart claimed that despite the huge investment made by the state government in the programme, the graduates were not integrated into the state health sector after completing their studies.
He further recalled how the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, reportedly intervened to settle an outstanding tuition fee for one of the affected graduates, describing the situation as embarrassing for Bauchi State, appealed to APC leaders to ensure a transparent and democratic process in selecting candidates for the 2027 governorship election.
