In Katsina State, the name Dr. Muttaka Rabe Darma continues to command respect among youths, writers, academics, and development advocates who have benefited from his unwavering commitment to human capital development and educational advancement.
Over the years, Dr. Darma has distinguished himself as a public servant whose passion for empowering people, particularly young men and women, has translated into tangible opportunities and lasting impact. During his tenure as Commissioner for Youths and Sports in Katsina State, he championed initiatives aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, self reliance, and skills acquisition among young people. His dedication to youth development earned him widespread admiration and established him as a leader committed to improving the lives of ordinary citizens.
Beyond his achievements in public service, Dr. Darma has also made remarkable contributions to the literary and intellectual development of society. As an advocate of education and knowledge sharing, he consistently encouraged writers, researchers, and scholars to contribute meaningfully to national development through literature and intellectual engagement.

I count myself fortunate to be among those who benefited from his generosity and vision. While serving at the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Dr. Darma facilitated the publication of my book titled Siyasa a Najeriya. His support came at a crucial stage in my literary journey and provided the encouragement needed to pursue writing with greater determination and confidence.
His contribution to my development as a writer was publicly acknowledged during a literary gathering held at Katsina Motel following his departure from PTDF. On that occasion, I spoke extensively about the pivotal role he played in helping me publish my work and inspiring me to continue my literary pursuits.
The encouragement I received from Dr. Darma motivated me to write and publish several other books. Among them is Gane Mani Hanya, which became part of the collection of the Katsina State Library Board under the leadership of the late Hajiya Hadiza Umar, former Director of Library Services. Another publication, Soyayyar Zamani, was published by the Gaskiya cooperation in Zaria.
Similarly, the late Ambassador Tanimu Saulawa played a significant role in supporting my literary career, particularly in the publication of Ana Muzuru, which was officially launched during the administration of former Governor Sa’idu Barda.
Over the years, I continued to expand my literary contributions with books such as Rungutsimi and Ba Zata Yuyu Ba. Copies of some of these works have found their way into academic institutions and libraries beyond Nigeria. Several of my stories were also adapted into films, including Abin Bauta, Bugazu, and Mai Gidan Biyu, among others.
The rich tradition of Hausa literature has produced timeless classics such as Magana Jari Ce, Kulba Na Barna, and Ruwan Bagaja, works that continue to educate and inspire generations of students and readers. Their enduring relevance underscores the critical role of literature in preserving culture, promoting knowledge, and shaping society.
It is therefore imperative for governments and educational institutions to provide greater support for writers and publishers. One practical approach would be for relevant authorities to identify themes and topics that address educational and developmental challenges and encourage writers to produce quality manuscripts on such subjects.
A committee of scholars, educationists, and literary experts could then review submitted works and select outstanding manuscripts for publication, recognition, and distribution. Such initiatives would not only enrich educational resources but also encourage creativity, innovation, and intellectual productivity.
Furthermore, institutions such as the Katsina State Library Board should organize literary forums, writers’ workshops, and book launch events while supporting the publication of quality manuscripts. These efforts would create sustainable opportunities for authors and publishers while contributing significantly to educational development and the growth of the publishing industry.
The story of Dr. Muttaka Rabe Darma’s support for literature and youth empowerment serves as a powerful reminder that true leadership is measured not merely by the offices one occupies but by the lives one touches and the opportunities one creates for others.
Through his commitment to youth development, education, and literary advancement, Dr. Darma has helped nurture talents, inspire future generations, and contribute meaningfully to the intellectual growth of society. His legacy remains a shining example of service, vision, and dedication to the common good
