The Yobe State Government has donated sporting equipments to security agencies as part of its post-insurgency recovery drive.
While distributing the sporting equipments on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner, Ministry of youth, sport, Social and community development, Alhaji Barma Shettima reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting initiatives that will promote wellness and healthy recreation within the security architecture in the state.
The Commissioner who’s represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Muhammad Gidado Abubakar, said sports is a veritable tool for strengthening the existing cordial relationship between security agencies and their host communities at large.
The Commissioner emphasized that the gesture aligns with the Buni led administration’s agenda of building healthy, secured and productive society.
He outlined that items donated includes eighteen units of football jerseys, two units of tracksuits, two balls, twelve football boots and other equipment each to appreciate the unrelenting contribution of the security agencies in fostering peace and unity in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the benefiting security agencies the representative of the Nigeria army lieutenant Colonel W.O Ahmad expressed gratitude to the state government for the support saying it will go along way in promoting sports development within the security agencies.
Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad added that sport will also foster closer relationships among host communities through organising competitions and football matches.
In his remarks, northeast zonal vice president sport writers association of Nigeria SWAN Comrade Ahmad Kagana Amshi applauded the state government for its consistent support in sports development across the state, reassured the efforts of SWAN to continue to promote sport development in Yobe, northeast and Nigeria as part of post conflict recovery respectively.
