DUTSE — A Magistrate Court sitting in Dutse, Jigawa State, has adjourned the trial of the Managing Director of Jigawa Savings and Loan, Alhaji Babandi Isa Gumel, to a later date.
The case was filed by the Jigawa State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, PCACC.
The adjournment followed a request by the counsel to the defendant for time to properly study the charges against his client.
Speaking to journalists at the Commission’s office on Kiyawa Road in Dutse, the PCACC Director of Public Enlightenment, Yusuf Suleiman, said the Commission arraigned Babandi Gumel in court after concluding investigations into a petition submitted by whistleblowers.
He disclosed that the Commission filed the case with three counts. The charges include: unlawful diversion of bank funds, alleged corruption, and unauthorized use of the bank’s money.
“We received this complaint in 2024. But we took time to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure that we presented strong evidence before the court,” he said.
Suleiman further stated that on 13/7/2026, the Magistrate Court granted the Commission permission to present its witnesses.
According to him, during the court session last Wednesday, the Commission presented its first witness, who testified on what he knew about the case.
Thereafter, the presiding Magistrate, Abdullahi Aliyu Ibrahim, adjourned further hearing of the case to 8th September 2026, and granted the defendant bail.
In conclusion, the PCACC Director of Public Enlightenment called on residents of the state to continue supporting the Commission by providing information, assured that the Commission is ready to protect anyone who brings a complaint before it and to ensure justice is done.
