North-Eastern University, Gombe (NEU Gombe), has introduced a 50 per cent Founder’s Scholarship for students seeking admission into six science-based degree programmes, as oil exploration gathers momentum in the Kolmani area of Gombe and Bauchi states.
The Pro-Chancellor and Founder of the university, Dr Sani Jauro (Dan Lawan of Gombe), announced the scholarship during the 2026 graduation ceremony of Pen Resource Academy.
The programmes covered by the scholarship are B.Sc. Petroleum Chemistry, Environmental Management and Toxicology, Industrial Chemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, and Urban and Regional Planning.
Jauro said the initiative was aimed at expanding access to higher education and equipping young Nigerians with skills needed to benefit from emerging opportunities in the oil and gas sector and other areas of the economy.
He said the university was also working towards establishing an Oil and Gas Competency Development Centre in collaboration with internationally recognised certification organisations.
According to him, the centre will provide specialised, industry-focused training and globally recognised certifications for students and professionals.
Jauro urged prospective students to take advantage of the scholarship, saying NEU Gombe was committed to producing graduates with the knowledge and practical skills required to meet labour-market demands.
He said the growing oil and gas activities in the North-East presented an opportunity for young people in the region to acquire relevant skills and participate meaningfully in the emerging
