The Nigerian Navy has commissioned a five-bedroom corps members’ lodge and a renovated dispensary at Malam Sidi in Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe State.
The projects were executed under the Chief of Naval Staff’s Special Quick Impact Projects to improve healthcare, accommodation and civil-military relations in the community.
Representing the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, Rear Admiral Yakubu Dahiru said the projects were aimed at addressing identified community needs and improving the welfare of personnel and residents.
He commended Rear Admiral Sulaiman Haruna Abdulmahi for initiating the projects and urged residents to protect and maintain the facilities.
The Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, who represented Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, described the renovated dispensary as a public asset that should be accessible to all residents.
Jatau also said the provision of accommodation for teachers and NYSC members would help improve service delivery in rural communities.
Earlier, Abdulmahi explained that the corps members’ lodge was built to address accommodation challenges at the senior secondary school in Malam Sidi.
He said inadequate accommodation had made it difficult to attract and retain teachers and corps members in the community.
Abdulmahi thanked the Gombe State Government, Kwami Local Government Council and the people of Malam Sidi for supporting the projects, urging the community to safeguard the facilities.
