The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Jigawa State Council, has called on Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi to establish and strengthen Colleges of Health Technology and Health Sciences across the three senatorial zones of the state.
The State Chairman of the union, Comrade Lawan Ibrahim, made the call at a one-day workshop organized for MHWUN members across the state.
Comrade Ibrahim said the union remains committed to working constructively with the government, the Primary Health Care Development Agency and other relevant stakeholders.
“Our objective is not only to protect the legitimate interests and welfare of our members but also to contribute positively to the improvement of healthcare delivery in the state,” he said.
He commended the administration of Governor Namadi for the progress made in the health sector and appealed for sustained investment in the training and retraining of health workers.
According to him, the workshop was aimed at strengthening knowledge, skills and commitment in critical areas of primary healthcare delivery, including immunization services and outreach, identification and follow-up of immunization defaulters, maternal and infant mortality, nutrition, health information management, disease prevention and community mobilization.
The chairman also appealed to the government to give priority to the welfare and career progression of health workers, including timely promotions, capacity development and other legitimate entitlements.
“A motivated and adequately trained workforce is essential if we are to achieve better health outcomes for our people,” he added.
In his remarks, the Jigawa State Head of Civil Service, Muhammad K. Dagaceri, commended health workers for their commitment, sacrifice and service to humanity, especially during emergencies and disasters.
The Head of Service, who was represented by the Director of Management Services, Ali Sa’adu, assured that government will continue to look into the welfare and other demands of health workers.
“Jigawa workers are in the forefront, especially health workers. We are proud of MHWUN among the affiliate unions. You are the most respected and dedicated. We commend you for your dedication to your assigned tasks,” he said.
He said training and retraining of workers will continue to receive priority under the administration of Governor Namadi, describing the workshop as timely and commendable.
He urged participants to apply the knowledge acquired to improve their skills and service delivery.
