Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to maintain neutrality, impartiality, and non-partisanship during the conduct of2027 general elections.
Zulum gave the charge on Friday while declaring open the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I orientation course at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, Mustapha Umar El-Kanemi Arabic College, Maiduguri.

Represented by Mr Garba Chibok, Permanent Secretary, Administration, Governor’s Office and Chairman, NYSC Borno Governing Board, the governor said corps members would be engaged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as ad-hoc personnel for the elections.
He said the engagement, based on the Memorandum of Understanding between INEC and NYSC, reflected the confidence reposed in the scheme to contribute to credible electoral processes.
“Corps members must not be seen as agents of any political party, candidate, or interest. You are ambassadors of Nigeria,” he said.
Zulum urged the corps members to abide strictly by electoral laws and their Oath of Allegiance, noting that their conduct would contribute to the credibility of the electoral process

He assured the corps members of the state government’s commitment to their security and welfare, urging them to respect the culture and traditions of their host communities.
Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mallam Nasir Bello, said 1,056 prospective corps members, comprising 556 males and 500 females, had registered for the orientation course
Bello said the corps members had demonstrated discipline and adapted quickly to camp life, urged them to participate actively in the orientation activities, including leadership training, paramilitary drills, and the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programs.
Zulum said corps members had continued to contribute to education, healthcare, agriculture, and community development, particularly in resettled communities, welcomed the new corps members to Borno, describing the state as the “Home of Peace.””
