The Kano State Government has approved a 50% increase in student scholarships.
Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje made the announcement during a pre-61st Independence Anniversary lecture in Kano on Wednesday.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, stated that the payment of the new scholarship allowances would begin soon.
He stated that the decision was consistent with the state government’s policy on free and compulsory education.
As a result, Ganduje urged students to make the most of their opportunities to further their education.
Commenting on the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), the governor urged eligible students to go get their voter cards before the exercise expired.
He also emphasized the importance of registering all eligible people in the state, given Kano State’s absence from the ongoing online voter registration exercise.
“We are always monitoring the exercise in other states right from the start because it is online, and we are, in fact, left behind.
“When Osun registered 400,000 people, Kano only registered 100,000.
“As a result, people should come out and register because we have the most people,” he said.
He also emphasized the importance of people being aware of their responsibilities, emphasizing that the independence anniversary was meant to reawaken Nigerians’ consciousness.
Earlier in his presentation, Dr. Saidu Ahmad-Dukawa of Bayero University, Kano’s Department of Political Science, emphasized the importance of leaders focusing on nation building in order to have a prosperous nation.
