
Scores Feared Dead, Dozen Injured as Farmers, Herders Clash in Jigawa

HOTPEN – Scores are believed to have lost their life in a bloody clash between group suspected to be herders, and farmers at Guri local government area of Jigawa state.
Reports from the trouble spot had it that dozens were injured in a fracas that was allegedly triggered by a minor disagreement on a market day last Thursday.
Eyewitness told Hotpen that the melee on the weekly market led to the death of one person which subsequently led to reprisal by contending group in several hamlets where they dominated.

Hotpen reports that Guri, Kirikasamma and Birniwa local government areas of Jigawa state has been identified as a trouble and volatile zones where farmers and herders engaged in a killing spree at the slightest provocation.
However, a statement by ASP Lawan Shisu Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer, Jigawa state police command, that was made available to Newsmen in Dutse, confirmed the incident.
ASP Lawan Shisu Adam, revealed that Fulani herders and farmers clashed at Magirami forest in Guri local government, adding that a team of police officers led by DPO Guri visited the scene.
He explained that two people were killed, five injured and were all rushed to Hadejia general hospital for treatment, as one person was arrested in connection with the incident.

Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Saleh Tafida and other top ranking officers visited the scene, stressed that normalcy has already restored while investigation is still ongoing to arrest the fleeting suspects.
At the time of filling this report no statement from Jigawa state government neither any official visits the areas to sympathized with the victims.
