HOTPEN – The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has today organized its annual ICT quiz for students of secondary schools in Kano state.
This year’s quiz was conducted at Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano and is the 21st of its kind.
In his opening remarks, the chairman of the Occasion and CITAD’s Executive Director, Engr. Yunusa Ya’u who was Represented by His Deputy, Malam Ahmad Abdullahi Yakasai, said CITAD uses the quiz as a tool for raising awareness on ICT among teachers and students, encouraging the study of computer education and testing ICT knowledge of secondary school students.
“Considering the fact that, more youths are unemployed and ICT as an area which does not require specific profession allows everyone to fall into the sector without age, gender or racial segregation” he added.
Malam Ahmad further explained that 50 schools were invited but 36 schools turned up for the competition.
“We liaised with the Science and Technical Schools Board and Teachers Service Board to assist us in strategizing the annual competition for 21 years now” He noted.
On his part, the Chief host of the competition and the Vice-Chancellor, Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano Prof. Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa who was represented by the DVC Academics, Prof. Amina Salihi Bayero stressed that ICT is the most applied course of study in recent years due to proliferation of digital facilities.
“I therefore, admonish you all to take this opportunity to learn more about ICT beyond the quiz alone and congratulations for being part of participants of this competition,” She said.
In their separate goodwill messages, The Vice Chairman of NCC, DG NITDA, Vice-Chancellor BUK, Director of CIT BUK, Director of Press BUK, Executive Secretary of Science and Technical Schools Board, Executive Secretary of Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Board and the Vice-Chancellor Admin, KUST Wudil, unanimously wished the students successes in their future endeavours and urged them to imbibe the habit of hardwork, discipline and intelligence as logics for success.
Our reporter witnessed the end of the ICT quiz competition with Sani Bello of Science College Dawakin Kudu emerging Victorious for the First Place Position while Maryam Abacha of Government Girls Secondary School won the Second Place Position and School for Arabic Studies Kano won the Third Place Position.
HOTPEN reports that the first place position won a laptop, printer, wall clock, dozen exercise books, branded bag and a scholarship form for ICT training. While the second position won a laptop, a wall clock, a dozen exercise books, branded bag and a scholarship form for ICT training. Also, the third place won a refurbished computer desktop, printer and wall clock. And the best teacher was awarded a Plasma TV.
