A Non Governmental Organization known as Civil Society Scaling-Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) has applauded Jigawa state governor Malam Umar Namadi for the release of N250 million as matching fund for the purchase of Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF).
The commendation was contained in a statement made available to newsmen by the CS-SUNN Jigawa state coordinator, Comrade Shu’aibu Musa Kafin-Gana.
According to the statement this laudable milestone was achieved as a result of Governor’s commitments and concerned on how to improve the life of children as well as tiresless effort of CS-SUNN members through advocacies, media awareness campaign and other follow up to relevant stakeholders.
“The Council has ratified the Executive approval granted by His Excellency, Governor of Jigawa State for the release of sum of Two Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N250,000,000.00) only as matching fund for the purchase of Ready to Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTF) between Jigawa State Government and UNICEF as part of the Namadi’s administration efforts to combat malnutrition among children in the State as presented by the Ministry of Health”.
While commending the governor on this achievement, the CS-SUNN also called for the extension of maternity leave from three months to six months for the lactating mothers to have enough time to breastfeed their babies.
The Scaling-Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN)is a combined Civil Society Organizations, Media and Academia Working to improve Nutrition and reduce stunting rate in the Jigawa state.
