The Kano State Hisbah Board has commended officials of the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) for intercepting 349 cartons of alcoholic beverages at different locations across the state.
While handing over the seized alcoholic drinks to the Hisbah Board, KAROTA, he listed the various brands confiscated to include Brambaj, Ballamour, Mafia, Orijin Bitters, Derok, Action Bitters, and Palwine.
A KAROTA official who provided further details explained that 27 cartons of the alcoholic beverages were intercepted along Enugu Road in Sabon Gari, within Fagge Local Government Area. According to him, the drinks were discovered inside a tricycle after its driver was arrested for violating traffic regulations.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Deputy Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen Abubakar Sani Uba Rimo expressed appreciation to KAROTA officials for their continued support and cooperation with the Hisbah Board in carrying out its responsibilities.
He stated that their reward rests with Allah and added that both agencies maintain a strong working relationship.
CSH Sani Uba Rimo further noted that the laws of Kano State empower the Hisbah Board to seize alcoholic substances, explained that, under Section 401 of the 2024 Kano State Penal Code, the consumption, production, distribution, possession, transportation, and trading of intoxicating substances are prohibited, which justified the acceptance of the confiscated beverages from KAROTA.
