A suspected motorcycle thief (yet to be identified) was burnt to death by irate youths at the main gate of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred after the suspect, who was receiving treatment at the hospital’s emergency unit, attempted to escape.

A video that went viral on social media showed the suspect, dressed in a white shirt and stained with blood, being dragged to the hospital gate by youths before he was set ablaze.

An eyewitness told Hotpen that two suspected motorcycle thieves were caught on the premises of FMC Birnin Kudu on Monday while allegedly attempting to steal motorcycles. One managed to escape while the other was apprehended and beaten mercilessly by youths.
The suspect was later taken to the emergency unit of the hospital for treatment. He reportedly escaped from the ward but was intercepted by youths who had been alerted.
“He was caught again, beaten further, dragged to the gate and burnt,” the source said.

Police are yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
Hotpen reports that, the act has sparked reactions over mob justice and rising cases of motorcycle theft in the area.
